Laurie Schramm comes from an RCMP family, grew up while living in the RCMP Barracks (Depot Division) in Regina, Saskatchewan, and spent several summers working as a civilian for the RCMP while in high school and university. Early personal influences included not only the real-life RCMP culture but also Hollywood’s versions via such classics as Rose Marie, and Susannah of the Mounties. Many of the events described in his historical-fiction novels are based on the author’s real life, although not necessarily within an RCMP context.
In professional life, he is an industrial scientist and has worked in all four sectors: industry, government, not-for-profit, and academia. Under his formal name, Laurier L. Schramm, he has published numerous books in science and technology and historical non-fiction.
